Improving cost efficiency in a telecom network is extremely difficult due to the multitude of conflicting goals as the need to continually upgrade the network.
The article describes an approach that we have developed based on the desire of CTOs and CFOs to establish a stable and executable lean target-picture to work against, rather than running in new cost reduction circles every year.
Our experience and that of leading operators has shown that this approach, if done with rigor and sustained commitment over a period of three to four years, typically delivers between 25–35 percent efficiency gains or 4–7 percentage points of EBITDA improvement. This scale of progress can create a substantial competitive edge in ever tougher market environments.
