Across healthcare, adoption of artificial intelligence is picking up steam. Organizations are realizing gains from applications that not only streamline workflows but free staff to do more value-added work. How are they doing it? A key step is engaging a diverse set of leaders and articulating how AI fits into the organization’s overall strategy, according to Amy Waldron, Global Director, Healthcare and Life Sciences Solutions, Google Cloud.

Demonstrating value from an AI deployment is paramount to converting clinicians and others to become true believers in the technology. While there’s no perfect plan for deploying AI, the biggest risk leaders face is doing nothing, Waldron added. In fact, CEOs from a number of industries recently surveyed by the Oliver Wyman Forum and New York Stock Exchange said they fear losing ground to competitors but are proceeding with caution as use cases — and meaningful return on investments — bear out.

In this video, Waldron and Oliver Wyman’s Terry Stone talk about what it takes to be successful in deploying AI. The conversation took place during the 2024 Oliver Wyman Health Innovation Summit where AI in healthcare was a central theme.
