It’s not enough to simply deploy a new technology system. Organizations that want to really harness a technology like artificial intelligence must simultaneously fix broken processes. "If you layer AI on rotten processes, you end up with rotten results," David Lubarsky, MD, CEO, UC Davis Health, said during a speech at the 2024 Oliver Wyman Health Innovation Summit.

UC Davis Health is taking a more strategic approach to its AI implementation — investing in the validity of its data, building consensus around which clinical areas to address, and ensuring productivity gains translate to an improved experience for patients and clinicians.

In this video, Lubarsky describes how the health system has tapped into AI to reduce morbidity and mortality from sepsis, increase physician productivity by 12%, and more. The interview was recorded at the Health Innovation Summit where AI in healthcare was a central theme.
