The days of the traditional electrical power utility are numbered.

Disruptive sources such as Tesla's battery storage solutions are making it relatively easy for domestic residences and small businesses to unplug from the grid. In fact, we estimate that a home or business in Europe and North America goes solar every two minutes. By 2020 our research shows that up to $20 billion in annual revenues could shift away from utilities.

However, electric utilities need not accept this fate. Like the telecommunications industry in the 1990s if the power generation industry can anticipate and better yet, support their customers changing needs by using their expertise and experience they can ride the wave of this changing landscape.
