Creating change in healthcare is not easy. That’s especially true considering stakeholders often view the same issues through different lenses.

“Our cost is someone else’s revenue, and that’s always been true,” Kim Keck, President and CEO of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association told Oliver Wyman’s Rachel Zeldin in this video interview. But that contrast shouldn’t be used as an excuse to maintain the status quo. Instead, Keck said, the industry needs to find new and different approaches to solve such big challenges as the mental health crisis, access to care, and affordability.

During their conversation, which took place at the 2024 Oliver Wyman Health Innovation Summit, Keck and Zeldin talked about ways that the nation’s 33 Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans are sharing best practices and what lessons those provide the broader industry.
