To assess the current status of mental health conditions in the corporate workplace, and to provide a benchmark for reference for Hong Kong employers – the CMHA HK, together with Oliver Wyman, launched its inaugural mental health survey in 2017. In 2018, we present the results from our second survey. The survey – comprised of 400 voluntary responses – suggests that mental ill health is a common and widespread issue amongst Hong Kong professional services employees, with 37% of respondents indicating that they have experienced mental ill health at some point in their lifetime. Such prevalent issue is largely related to the stigma associated with it, and the survey has also identified three gaps in the professional work space that must be tackled in order to address mental ill health: knowledge (education on mental health), support (sufficient resources to staff well-being), trust (safe environment for employees to reveal).
