The new science of cities: public services, data analytics and urban platforms

Recent progress in our understanding of urban complexity and computing tools are assembling the current paradigm of the science of cities. Digital and smart technologies means are driving the paradigm of cities as platforms, where the interconnection of all digital functionalities enables new ways of making the best of data gathering for public decision making. Data analytics play a crucial role in this aspiration of making sense of what happens (and it is captured as data) in a city. Also, in its departments and services, as it can lead to a better interpretation of how to improve public service delivery and urban governance. This session wants to explore different approaches to urban analysis and big data management that cities are using to improve their performance.
