Even one child going missing or being exploited is one child too many – which is why the work of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), a global not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating a safer world for children, is so important. With operations spanning over 120 countries, ICMEC empowers governments, law enforcement agencies, NGOs, and families with essential tools, training, and education to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
The organization has trained more than 155,000 people on how to respond to and investigate crimes that impact children, including abduction, sexual abuse, and exploitation. It also provides resources for criminal justice professionals and healthcare providers to better equip them in dealing with these sensitive cases.
ICMEC runs two regional financial programs – the US Financial Coalition Against Child Sexual Exploitation and the APAC Financial Coalition Against Child Sexual Exploitation – that support financial services companies in protecting children. These coalitions work with industry leaders to fight the online sale and distribution of child abuse material.
We partnered with ICMEC to analyze and strategically plan for these programs. We reviewed existing services, financials, and operating models, engaged with stakeholders, and conducted market research to explore additional funding opportunities. This process identified gaps in revenue, cost, and operational capability, leading to the creation of a strategic roadmap for ICMEC’s growth.
The Oliver Wyman team’s insightful questions clarified our program rationale, helping us refine our thoughts on program outcomes and long-term impact. I enjoyed the team's intense engagement, and willingness to understand the program before applying their expertiseBindu Sharma, Vice President Global Policy & Industry Alliances/Managing Director, Asia Pacific, ICMEC
Our recommendations included restructuring the financial coalition programs and developing a sustainable funding pipeline. We also provided an engagement management tool and fundraising marketing materials, enhancing ICMEC’s operational capabilities. By defining the necessary capacities and creating a clear execution roadmap, we ensured ICMEC could achieve its long-term vision.
Our collaboration underscores the importance of strategic planning and sustainable funding in combating child exploitation. Empowering ICMEC with the necessary tools and insights, we aim to strengthen their global efforts, ensuring children grow up free from harm. Together, we are fostering safer environments and making a lasting impact on vulnerable populations.
