Michael is a principal in the Actuarial Practice, based in the San Francisco office. He specializes in reserving, pricing, captive advisory, and capital modeling for self-insured clients.
He works with clients to explore alternative ways of managing risk, for example implementing or augmenting a captive or other alternative risk transfer mechanisms. By thinking strategically and holistically, Michael has helped clients identify opportunities to take on more risk while reducing insurance spend. Michael is known for his collaborative approach working with clients, closely listening to fully understand their needs, and develop innovative solutions.

Over the course of his career, Michael has served as the lead actuary on numerous engagements for a variety of public entities, insurance, reinsurance, captive and self-insured organizations. His experiences include economic capital modeling, actuarial technical pricing of unique risks such as wildfire liability and cyber, estimates of unpaid loss for property and casualty exposures, and estimates of required collateral related to large deductible casualty insurance programs.
Michael is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage daughters, listening to music and going to concerts, traveling, playing the piano, and cooking.
