Karin is a partner and head of consumer and retail banking compliance in our Finance and Risk Practice, based in San Francisco. She has 25 years of experience in risk and compliance within the banking and financial services industry.

Throughout her career, Karin has worked closely with all US regulatory agencies, navigating significant regulatory changes and events. She has led the implementation of notable regulatory changes and the remediation of major enforcement actions. Karin has also provided guidance to large risk and compliance organizations, overseeing the development and maturation of compliance management systems and related programs.

Her areas of focus include issue management, regulatory change management, third-party risk, risk assessment, monitoring and testing, as well as governance frameworks. Karin has also played a key role in the establishment of consumer protection and fair and responsible banking programs, customer complaint programs, community reinvestment act programs, anti-money laundering programs, employee ethics and integrity programs, and the implementation and adoption of the line of defense model. She possesses a unique ability to understand an organization's needs, priorities, risk profile, and readiness, allowing her to tailor compliance and risk programs accordingly.

Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, Karin served as the senior managing director and Compliance Risk Practice lead at another consulting firm. In this role, she led a team in providing financial service clients with valuable advice, support, and solutions for their regulatory compliance and risk management needs. Karin has also consulted for banks, non-bank lenders, insurance providers, fintechs, and de-novo banks, where she advised on the design, build, and maturity of enterprise risk and compliance programs.

Additionally, she has spent more than 20 years in risk and compliance roles in retail banks, including as the chief compliance officer for Bank of the West, Zions Bancorporation, and Suntrust Bank’s Consumer and Small Business division.

Karin is widely recognized in the industry as a regulatory and risk management expert. She frequently speaks at industry events, writes articles and thought leadership pieces, and moderates roundtables, podcasts, training sessions, and webinars on regulatory risk topics.

Her commitment to staying at the forefront of industry trends and developments ensures that she provides clients with the most up-to-date insights and solutions.

In her free time, Karin loves to travel, enjoys attending the theater, live music concerts and art shows. She is also an avid runner.

Karin holds an MBA from the University of Utah and a BA from the University of Massachusetts. She is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM).
