James is a vice chair in Oliver Wyman’s Financial Services Practice, and has more than 29 years of industry and consulting experience, focusing on banking, risk and compliance, investment management, and board governance.
Prior to rejoining Oliver Wyman, James was a member of BNY Mellon’s Executive Committee between 2014 to 2021. During that time, he held several enterprise roles including chief risk officer, chief investment officer, CEO of BNY Mellon NA, and was a member of the Board of Directors of BNY Mellon SA/NV and BNY Mellon Government Securities Services.

James originally joined Oliver Wyman in 1994, leaving in 2014. During his first stint, he was a senior partner at Oliver Wyman Financial Services where he occupied several leadership roles including leading the North America Finance and Risk Management Practice and the Global Public Policy Practice.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis with friends and attending sporting events for his daughter’s teams. He is an active member in the NYC community, serving as a trustee of both the New York Hall of Science and Phipps Neighborhoods.
James graduated from Princeton University in 1994 with a PhD in Physics.
