James Miller is a partner in our Transportation and Services Practice, based in Toronto.
James is an experienced, trusted advisor specializing in company transformations, turn-arounds, restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions.
Before joining Oliver Wyman, he served as a partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory practice at Deloitte in Toronto, where he led the freight rail practice and facilitated post-merger integration for clients. James’s career began in the rail industry, starting at Canadian Pacific and later moving to British Columbia Railway, where he played a crucial role in a successful turn-around team that transformed and eventually sold the company. He later ventured into corporate development and finance in the financial services and steel industries, building a strong track record of solving complex problems and repositioning companies for long-term success.
Achieving sustainable success for organizations involves more than incorporating fact-based, data-driven analysis to develop plans. Success also involves engaging teams, managing change, and managing culture. That’s hard, but that is what makes the difference
James holds an MBA from Queen’s University and a bachelor’s degree from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. He has also shared his expertise by teaching finance at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
On a personal level, James has a passion for architecture and enjoys renovating old houses. Notably, he and his partner Miquel have recently accomplished the restoration of a 220-year-old house and a 150-year-old barn in Prince Edward County, Ontario, a region 200 km east of Toronto.
