Hendrik, who joined Oliver Wyman in 2010 after working at Microsoft for years and completing his MBA at INSEAD, advises clients in the software, information technology services, and high-tech sectors on strategic workforce planning, operating model design, and efficiency improvement efforts. He also has considerable experience with CIO advisory work for clients across many industries.

I started my career early on in software sales and learned to listen well before diving into solutions

Hendrik's greatest strength, in his view, is an ability to listen thoughtfully to clients and to provide them with impartial advice. As he sees it, there are two aspects to his work—a “softer” side and a harder, content-related side. “On the softer side, people are seeking someone who can listen to the technology challenges they face and to be neutral in their advice,” says Hendrik. “In terms of content, they are looking for a perspective that combines the tech vendors’ view of how to sell and/or service technology and the clients’ view of how to choose and implement the right technology.”

Beyond just a good and positive outcome to his work, it’s the process that he most enjoys. “In longer, transformational projects you go through ups and downs together with the client,” says Hendrik. “This process forms deeper and long-lasting relationships with our clients and adds a personal dimension.”

His experience at Oliver Wyman has been a defining moment for him, professionally. “The first feedbacks that I received at Oliver Wyman surprised me for their openness and directness. But they also paved the way in developing my personality and in becoming a better consultant,” he says.

The father of two young daughters, Hendrik looks forward to spending time with them, drinking good coffee, and being outdoors, preferably on a mountain bike or skis.
