Tell us about your job
I work as a consultant, mostly focusing on the financial services industry. Although I have
been involved in a wide range of topics, I have been interested in projects related to culture
and organizational change.
What’s your background?
I have lived in Japan most of my life but have also lived in USA, Germany and the UK. Oliver
Wyman has been a great place to work because I can leverage expertise and support from
my colleagues globally.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Yes. I’ve worked with colleagues who spent their lives in different countries, experienced
different careers, and have different life ambitions. Oliver Wyman has been a place where
individuals can create their own desired career path. If you have this mindset of creating your
own career path, Oliver Wyman is the place for you.
What’s the coolest thing about your job?
The people. I have met extremely intelligent, genuine and motivating colleagues who are
willing to collaborate and create a respectful work environment. Having such great mentors
who support my career is also a great privilege. The global network has been very interesting
and helped me step up as a truly global consultant. Currently, I am working on a project
in Sydney, and I get to work with clients and colleagues to solve issues in a different
context.
What three pieces of advice would you give to your student self?
Don’t worry too much about career plans. It will be an ongoing journey and you do not
need to have the answers to everything as a student.Make your own decisions. Make sure you are making the decision you want rather than
from external pressure. This will help you push through during difficult times because
you know why you are here.Value college relationships. Your college friends may end up doing something
completely different to you. It would be valuable to maintain these relationships and to
learn from each other.
