Based in Rome, Roberto is a Partner in the Transportation and Services practice, where he advises clients on strategy redesign, M&A, commercial effectiveness, and operational excellence, and aerospace and defense topics. Having served as chairman of an Italian air navigation service provider, CEO of an airline, and CEO of an aerospace logistics provider, Roberto boasts extensive industry experience.
In the coming years, the aerospace industry faces the challenge—and opportunity—of reducing internal complexity by accelerating on innovation, investing in R&D and people, and developing a transformational culture.
Prior to starting his career, Roberto studied chemical engineering in university. “I was about to graduate, and my professor invited me to join him for a discussion in the US at a symposium where my thesis would be presented. That same week I won an international scholarship for a training program with Procter & Gamble Europe,” he says, recalling what would be a turning point for him.
He went on to work for 10 years at Procter & Gamble Europe in the engineering and product-supply division and in R&D for multiple products in the laundry and household-cleaning categories. “While my main area of competence is advising on industrial strategy in the transportation, aerospace, and defense sector, I still hold two patents for household cleaning products’ formulation, and when possible I work with the university as a visiting professor” says Roberto.
His advice to young people first entering the consulting field is simple: “The beginning of your career is about learning on the job in a dynamic and competitive environment, make no compromise.”
